Non-ferrous metals panning for Kofi Metals Recycling in Accra, Ghana
one. Client Background and Core Challenges
Our client, Mr. Kofi, runs a small metal recycling operation in Accra, Ghana. His primary business is to shred and sell the metal scraps from materials such as discarded circuit boards, old doors and windows, and scrap aluminum from automobiles.
However, the shredded material is a mixture of iron, aluminum, copper, and plastic. He can only use a handheld magnet to extract the lower-value scrap iron. Large quantities of more valuable non-ferrous metals, such as aluminum, copper, and brass, cannot be effectively separated and are sold as mixed metal at extremely low prices. Witnessing his "gold mine" being sold at a low price, Mr. Kofi urgently needs a solution that is both suitable for his small-scale operations and requires a manageable investment.
two. Our Tailor-Made Solution
We fully understand the financial pressures faced by startups and small businesses in Africa and recommended the HECS eddy current separator.
Processed Materials: Shredded non-metallic scrap (primarily from electronic waste and scrap aluminum extrusions), particle size: 2-15mm.
Processing Capacity: The designed processing capacity is 2-3.5 tons/hour, perfectly suited to small-scale, intermittent production.
Core Equipment Features and Customization:
Compact Design, Adaptable to Small Sites: The equipment's compact size requires no complex infrastructure and can be easily installed in customers' crowded recycling yards.
Low Power, Energy-Saving and Reliable: The main motor's power is only 7.5kW, making it very compatible with the unstable local power grid and effectively controlling customers' electricity costs.
Mechanical Speed Control, Simple Operation: To avoid complex electronic control systems, we offer a simplified mechanical variable speed version. The speed of the sorting roller can be adjusted by adjusting a knob. This intuitive operation and easy maintenance make it ideal for workshops with limited technical resources.
Core Sorting Principle: The high-speed rotating magnetic roller generates an alternating magnetic field. When non-ferrous metals pass through, "eddy currents" are induced within the magnetic roller, generating a repulsive force that "ejects" them from the mixed material, achieving precise separation.
three. Implementation and Outstanding Results
After installation and commissioning at a recycling plant in Accra, Ghana, the HECS eddy current separator proved immediately effective, completely transforming Mr. Kofi's business model.
Turning waste into treasure, profits doubled: Mixed metals previously sold for $300 per ton now fetch $1,500 per ton after sorting, and separated aluminum pellets fetch over $6,000 per ton. The added net profit exceeds $3,000 per month.
Rapid Return on Investment: Thanks to the substantial incremental profits, the client fully recovered its equipment investment in just four months.
Enhanced Industry Competitiveness: Mr. Kofi can now provide downstream smelters with high-purity single metal materials, gaining greater pricing power and maintaining stable customer relationships.
Customer testimonials: Mr. Kofi excitedly shared, "This HECS eddy current separator has changed everything for me! It's like my 'magic wand,' turning trash into cash. I never thought I could separate copper and aluminum. The Chinese equipment is of high quality and suitable for our small factory. It has made me a star in the recycling circle in Accra!"
